mama, where's my body gonna go when i die?
who will call my name and then,
when i fly north
will my spirit fly with me?
into the sweet the dry and neverending?
who will call my name,
hold my hand gently?
who is gonna ease my dying pains?
when i fly north
in the sweet and shimmering,
who will hear the murmurs
of my final days?
for this is the summer
crowns the close of my chapters
twinkling with a fire
of remembered youth.
who will call my name,
carry my body,
lay me in the river and set me loose?

ptolemy's footsteps
01:42
|
|||
memories all dance away
a thousand-pointed star
skipping over fragrant earth
or smelling wildwood flowers.
i doubt they'll ever come back.
so, you'll see me in our garden
while away the hours.
i'll be like a child again
as i grin
the only memories i'll carry (carry)
will go a bit like
go a bit like
go a bit like this:
it's easy to remember
a thistle as it grows
and peels out like a wheel
down the asphalt road
it's easy to remember rain.
yet, i see, perhaps, you are not sold.
you'll base your accusations on
a lifestyle you see fit -
full of pride, anger, stress.
i couldn't care less!
i'd rather dance on my two feet
before i fade away.

corn soot
02:02
|
|||
it's my aim to never know
of the next place i will go
i just point my soulful compass true
and sail right off into the blue
when you're travelling, there's a truth:
if you're moving, the EARTH moves you
it's a form of intimate embrace
that's impossible to learn another way
so if you've had your fill of city life,
lace up your walking shoes.
say hello to your county highways.
what have you got to lose?
(go get some corn soot on ya)

all across the riverbed the sand track quavers
in raw bolts of light that hypnotize
i've got an unsteady feeling
about the steady earth so benign
and the LINES that draw you to another
are not easily forgotten
their tensile strength supports your way of life
the LINES curl and uncurl
they dissipate cannot cancel
only add together
and i am tempted to rhyme with them
they may cast cosmic webbings through your hair
dusting everywhere in a silver light
these LINES,
slanted sunweavings
in an icy creek
my brain drawn along
to the future causation speaks
and all across the riverbed the sand track quavers
in raw bolts of light
they hypnotize
lookin up, that moon is a rock.

swing close to me
02:41
|
|||
i am keen to see
the way you smile at me
and the way the leaves all tumble down around your feet.
they suspend you where you stand
radiant, like a silver penny -
oh, small satellite, swing close to me.
as i age will the wrinkles crease this heart i carry?
spin me round round round, ask me from whence i came.
how can you now float away and speak of spirits
oh so easily and no encumbrance take? (amazing.)
fly, fly, float my lover
cast your spores and seeds around -
know they go willingly and twinkle as they fall.
here i lie undone (and the EARTH is frowning)
under it's chin there grins
a well-fed dog.
and in the heavens there surround above them
the last court of the solar corona
as it fades away to celestial gray.
each one glows in its final colors
propagating through the autumn's air.
(this i know as it surrounds me.)
SO THEY SAY.

zoroaster
01:15
|
|||
i am always measuring.
in my heart there is love
I AM SURE OF IT
but cast through these fallow months
it doesn't amount to much
it is short-stubbled,
has little or no mass
nor is it capable of radiating energies
of any distinguishable type
forlorn leanings -
in short,
that love is weakly quantifiable.
i am always measuring big
soul bricks
and accidentally dropping
these soul bricks
(dense, concreted structures, they)
on my soft toes
they will ooze blood
from under the nail.
there is a golden zither playing
it is a triumphant ringing
and a serpent horn
in it's throaty howling
wool
when i look up
the moon is full again
and Zoroaster is casting about
on a boat shaped like
an anatomically-correct
aroused goose
(in his splendid fashion)
and when
he smiles his crooked teeth
come spinning off
the silken vapor layers
of deep sleep
and take a stern bit out of reality
QUITE ACTUALLY!

spruce prayer
02:23
|
|||
and when my energy has all been spent
and all the blood drained from my limbs
may the cold wind drift me over with snow
and the porcupines gnaw away at my bones
my bones
bones
bones
bones
bones
bones
bones
my bones

mouse and duck
02:16
|
|||
mouse was on his way to marmot's house to have some tea
wading through the snowdrifts all the way up to his knees
came up to a river as it swiveled back and forth
tried to find a route there but he couldn't get across
he crinkled up his nose and he called out to the duck
bowing to her graciously as she came swimming up
he asked her if she'd carry him and if she didn't mind
bringin' him over to the gravel at the other side
"oh, yes," says the duck, "I will surely help you, friend."
so she took him on her back and paddled off, again
says the mouse, "I'm so grateful for your help, you see,
as I cannot swim at all and I'd be late for tea."
by this time the two had reached the center of the stream
says the duck, "things are not exactly as they seem -
I'm hungry and you haven't any options left, so come,
sit upon my bill a while and slide right down my tongue."
